Question 12:

Find the length of each side of a square whose area is equal to the area of a rectangle of length 13.6 metres and breadth 3.4 metres.

Answer 12:

Area of the rectangle $=(13.6 \times 3.4) =46.24$ sq m
​Thus, area of the square is 46.24 sq m.

Length of each side of the square $= \sqrt{46.24}$ m

Using long division method:



$\sqrt{46.24}=6.8$
 
Thus, the length of a side of the square is 6.8 metres.
