Exercise 14 C
Question 1
Find the area of each parallelogram.
(i) (ii) (iii) (iv) (v) Base 8 cm12 mm6.5 m1 m5⋅cm4.2dm Height 3 cm8.7 cm4.8 m45 cm25 cm
(i) Area = =B×H
=8×3
=24 cm2
(ii) Base 212 mm
1cm=10 mm
B= 1.2cm
Area = =B×H
=1.2×3.7=10.44 cm2
(iii)
A=B×H=6.5×4.8=31.20m2
(iv) 1m=100 cm
B=105 cm
Area =105×45−
=4725 cm2 =0.4725 m2
Question 2
(i) Area of ||gm ABCD = 48 cm2 DE = 6cm AB =?
(DIAGRAM TO BE ADDED)
Sol: Area =B×4
48=DE×ABAB=436AB=8 cm
(ii)
Area of ‖gm PQRS =252 cm2 PQ = 9CM RT= ?
Sol:
Area =PQ×RT⇒252=9×RT⇒RT=2529⇒RT=28 cm
Question 3
The side of a rhombs is 7.2cm and its altitude is 5cm. Find its area.
[Hint. Since a rhombus is a parallelogram with all its sides equal, the formula for area of a ||gm is applicable to it also]
Sol: Area = Base × Height (altitude)
=7.2×5
=36 cm2
Question 4
The adjacent sides of a parallelogram are 36 cm and 27cm in length . if the perpendicular distance between the shorter sides is 12 cm, find the distacne between the longer sides.
(IMAGE TO BE ADDED)
Sol: Given AE = 12CM
Area of parallelogram ABCD = BASE × height
=DC×AE
=27×12 cm2
As we know Area of ||gm ABCD = BC×AF = DC×AE
⇒AF=27×1236⇒AF=9 cm,
Question 5
The area of a parallelogram and a square are the same. If the perimeter of the square is 160 m and the height of the parallelogram is 20 m, find the length of the corresponding base of the parallelogram.
Sol: Perimeter of square = 160 m
4× side =160⇒ side =1604 = Side = 40 m
Area of square = side 2 =402=1600 m2
Area of parallelogram = Base × Height =1600
⇒ Base =160020
Base =80 m
Question 6
The area of a rhombus is 42 m2. If its perimeter is 24 m, find its altitude.
Sol: Perimeter = 24 m
4× side =24⇒ side =6 m
Area = Base × Height= 42
Height = 426
H= 7m answer
