Ans: Binomials

Ans: $-6 y^{2}$

Ans: $x^{2}$

Ans: $\frac{2}{3}$

(iv) $x^{2} y$ in $\frac{-4}{9} a$ $x^{2} y$
Ans: $-\frac{4}{9} a$

(v) xy in - 4xyz 
Ans: - 4z

Identify the like terms in each of the following : 

(i)  $a^{2}, b^{2},2 a^{2}, c^{2}$
Ans: Like terms  $a^{2}$ , $2 a^{2}$

(ii) $3 x y, yz, 5 x, \frac{2}{7} y z$
Ans: Like terms  yz ,  $\frac{2}{7} y z$

(iii) $8 m^{2} n, m^{2} p,-m^{2} n, m^{2} n^{2}$
Ans: Like terms $8 m^{2} n$ ,  $-m^{2} n$

(iv)  $c a b^{2}, a^{2} b c, b^{2} a c, c^{2} a b, a b c, a c b^{2}$
Ans: like terms  $c a b^{2}$ , $b^{2} a c$  , $a c b^{2}$

  Question 5

identify polynomial from the given algebraic equation 

(i)  $\frac{4}{9} y^{2}-\frac{4}{9} x^{2}+4$ 

(ii)  $\frac{2}{x}+\frac{3}{x^{2}}-4 x^{2}+3 x+2$

(iii) $3 a^{3}+4 a^{2} b+8 b^{3}$ 

(iv) $x^{2}-\frac{1}{x^{2}}+2$

Ans: Only  I and III are polynomials

  Question 6

Write down the degree of the following polynomials: 

(i)  $4 x^{2}-x^{4}$
Ans: degree of polynomials = 4

(ii) $4 p^{2}+6 p^{3}+8 p^{8}$
Ans: degree of polynomials = 8

(iii) $m^{2} n^{3}+m n^{2}+4$ 
Ans: degree of polynomials = 5

( iv)  $p^{2} q^{4}+p q^{2}+1$
Ans: degree of polynomials  =6

(v) 4
$x^0$= 1 
4×1 = $4 \times x^0$ 
Degree of polynomials =0
