Question 1

Simplify :

(a) $\frac{1}{3}+\frac{1}{3}+\frac{1}{3}+\frac{1}{3}$

Sol :

$=\frac{1+1+1+1}{3}$

$=\frac{4}{3}=1\frac{1}{3}$

(b) $\frac{2}{5}+\frac{2}{5}+\frac{2}{5}+\frac{2}{5}+\frac{2}{5}$

Sol :

$=\frac{2+2+2+2+2}{5}$

$=\frac{10}{5}$

=2

Question 2

(a) $7\times \frac{1}{8}$
Sol :
$=\frac{7}{8}$

(b) $8\times \frac{2}{15}$

Sol :

$=\frac{16}{15}=1\frac{1}{15}$

(c) $8\times \frac{3}{4}$

Sol :

$=\frac{24}{4}$

=6

(d) $20\times \frac{4}{5}$

Sol :

=16

Q3 | Ex-2B | Class 7 | Schand New Learning Composite | Fractions and Decimals | Chapter 2| myhelper

Question 3

(a) $4\frac{7}{9}\times 12$

Sol :

$=\frac{43}{9}\times 12=\frac{172}{3}$

$=57\frac{1}{3}$

(b) $\frac{1}{48}\times 6$

Sol :

$=\frac{1}{8}$

(c) $2\frac{1}{10}\times 15$

Sol :

$=\frac{21}{10}\times 15$

$=\frac{63}{2}=31\frac{1}{2}$

(d) $4\frac{1}{6}\times 3$

Sol :

$=\frac{25}{6}\times 3$

$=12\frac{1}{2}$

Q4 | Ex-2B | Class 7 | Schand New Learning Composite | Fractions and Decimals | Chapter 2| myhelper

Question 4

Evaluate each expression. write each answer in simplest form

(a) 15a for a $=\frac{11}{15}$

Sol :

$=15\times \frac{11}{15}$

=11

(b) $\frac{2}{3} x$ for $x=27$

Sol :

$=\frac{2}{3}\times 21$

=18

(c) $\frac{1}{4} y$ for $y=36$

Sol :

$=\frac{1}{4}\times 36$

=9

Q5 | Ex-2B | Class 7 | Schand New Learning Composite | Fractions and Decimals | Chapter 2| myhelper

Question 5

Compare write >, < or =

(a) $8 \times \frac{1}{20} \square \frac{1}{3}$

Sol :

$8\times \frac{1}{20}=\frac{2}{5}$

$\frac{2}{5} \square \frac{1}{3}$

L.C.M of 5,3 is 15

$\frac{2\times 3}{5\times 3}=\frac{6}{15}$

$\frac{1 \times 5}{3 \times 5}=\frac{5}{15}$

$8\frac{1}{20}>\frac{1}{3}$

(b) $7 \square 28 \times \frac{2}{7}$

Sol :

$28\times \frac{2}{7}$

$7<28\times \frac{2}{7}$

(c) $8 \times \frac{3}{32} \square \frac{3}{4}$

Sol :

$8\times \frac{3}{32}=\frac{3}{4}$
